RTE is the public broadcaster in Ireland and is a long time supporter of Horse Racing in the country, Ireland is of course a racing mad country and having the big races on free-to-air TV is absolutely vital to the growth of the sport. At the moment RTE has over 30 days of racing on the channel with all of the major races from around the country featured in the coverage, as well as both the Cheltenham Festival Races and the Aintree Grand National Festival from the UK.

The biggest meetings for RTE through the season are the Punchestown and Galway Festivals as well as the Irish Derby at the Curragh for the flat horses each summer. There are a number of presenters on RTE Racing with Robert Hall and Ted Walsh the regular main presenters of the coverage, Walsh is of course a well respected figure in racing having turned his hand to both riding and training during a long career as well as being the father to Ruby Walsh. Other contributors to the RTE Racing team include the likes of Brian Gleeson, Tracy Piggott and Tom Lee who can also be seen regularly on Channel 4 Racing from the betting ring looking at the odds from the bookmakers as well as the exchanges.
